Which transformer do I replace before it finds me?
Risk-ranked iron. Defensible replacement.
Thirty to forty percent of utility O&M goes to asset maintenance, and forty percent of distribution transformers in the US are past their nameplate life. Aria reconciles inspection, load, age, and failure-history data across EAM, SCADA, and field inspection forms into one risk-ranked replacement queue the capital plan can actually cite.
What Aria does in Asset management.
- 01 / 04CapabilityRisk over age
Risk over age
Replacement prioritization scores failure consequence against likelihood, not nameplate age alone. The queue reflects operational reality: a 35-year-old rural tap ranks below a 20-year-old unit feeding a downtown critical-customer load.
- 02 / 04CapabilityReconciled data
Reconciled data
Inspection forms, SCADA telemetry, and EAM failure history rarely agree without reconciliation. Aria surfaces the variance and gives each asset a single defensible condition score the reliability team trusts.
- 03 / 04CapabilityDeferral economics
Deferral economics
The finance team wants the dollar cost of deferring a year. Aria returns it with the assumption log attached. Capital decisions survive both the CFO’s review and the commission’s prudence audit.
- 04 / 04CapabilityCapital-plan integration
Capital-plan integration
The ranked queue maps to lead times from supply chain, outage windows from reliability, and funding cycles from planning. Capital plan, work plan, and supply plan speak to the same asset list.
How Aria runs Asset management, end to end.
- CONDITION INTAKE
Inspection, SCADA, and failure history reconciled.
Aria reads inspection forms from the WMS, loading and temperature telemetry from SCADA where instrumented, and every failure record in EAM going back a decade. She reconciles three populations that rarely agree: the inspected fleet, the loaded fleet, and the failed fleet.

- RISK SCORING
Consequence times likelihood, not nameplate age.
An old transformer on a lightly loaded rural tap is a different asset from a similarly aged unit feeding a downtown medical center. Aria scores consequence of failure in customer-minutes, critical-customer exposure, and dollar-denominated restoration cost. Age is one input, not the answer.

- REPLACEMENT QUEUE
The capital plan sees one ranked list.
Planning, reliability, and field ops typically maintain three overlapping replacement lists. Aria reconciles them into one ranked queue tied to the capital plan’s funding cycle, lead-time constraints from supply chain, and the outage windows reliability will tolerate. One list. Arbitrable. Defensible.

- DEFERRAL ECONOMICS
Every deferred year has a dollar.
When capital is tight, the CFO wants to know what a deferral costs. Aria calculates the marginal failure-probability uplift per year of deferral against the consequence cost, returning a dollar figure the finance team can bring to the budget committee. No hand-waving. The assumption log is in the appendix.

- PRUDENCE FILE
Every replacement defensible in testimony.
When a rate case or prudence review asks why a transformer was replaced, the answer is already in the ledger: inspection finding, loading history, failure probability, consequence cost, and the ranked queue position. Aria assembles the exhibit automatically from the same system the asset manager uses.

We have an APM tool. Do you replace it?
No. Your asset performance management platform, whether Copperleaf, Maximo APM, Bentley, or similar, remains. Aria reconciles across the systems APM depends on, and she closes the gap between the condition data the APM assumes it has and the condition data you actually have. Most APM deployments we see are data-starved, not methodology-starved.How does this handle regulated asset capitalization rules?
The replacement queue carries the asset’s FERC account classification, the capital-versus-expense posture, and the depreciation group. When the queue is consumed into the capital plan, the accounting treatment is already defined. Your controller’s team does not re-derive the classification at year-end.What condition data do you actually use?
Inspection forms (infrared, DGA, visual), SCADA loading and temperature where instrumented, failure history from EAM, and foreman patrol notes. The richness varies by fleet segment. Substation transformers are usually well-instrumented; pole-top units often are not. Aria scores confidence alongside the risk score. Can you model probability of failure without proprietary ML?
Aria uses published actuarial curves from EPRI and IEEE C57 tables as a starting point and conditions them on fleet-specific failure history. When a utility has ten years of failure data, the conditional model is well-populated. When it does not, Aria surfaces the uncertainty rather than hiding it behind a false-precision score. How do you handle critical customer designation?
Medical, public safety, water and wastewater pumping, large industrial, and data-center customers carry consequence-cost multipliers in the risk score. The designation comes from your tariff filings and outage-restoration priority lists, not an Aria opinion. If the critical-customer list is stale, Aria flags it.What about non-wires alternatives?
Aria reads the NWA screening criteria from your integrated resource plan or distribution plan. When a replacement candidate is also an NWA candidate, she surfaces both paths so planning can weigh them against one another rather than defaulting to like-for-like replacement.Does this extend to substation, transmission, or pole assets?
Yes, though the condition data differs. Substation transformers are richly instrumented; wood poles are not. Aria applies the same risk-and-consequence framework across asset classes. The confidence score for wood poles is structurally lower than for substation iron; the ranking accounts for that.
